Texans safety Danieal Manning was supposed to make a base salary of $4.5 million this season, but considering he'll turn 32 in August and he missed the last 10 games of last year with a fractured fibula, it's not surprising that the team wanted him to take a paycut before the 2014 season.

But he reportedly declined to do so, and now, according to ESPN.com's Adam Schefter, Houston has released him.

Manning is an eight-year veteran who has done a fine job in Houston's secondary, but when the Texans recently signed safety Chris Clemons, that should have been a clear sign that the team didn't have much interest in bringing back Manning.

NFL.com theorizes that Manning could be a candidate to sign with the Cowboys since his old defensive coordinator in Chicago, Rod Marinelli, is now the defensive coordinator in Dallas.
