Chad Johnson, the former NFL wide receiver who covered the league for CBS Sports last season, will work out for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes this week, general manager Jim Popp said in a statement Saturday.

“We do expect to meet with Chad Johnson and work him out in Vero Beach, Fla. this week. Talks did take place and have escalated over the last week.”

Johnson confirmed the news Friday night.

Johnson, 36, was taken in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He spent the first 10 years of his career with the Bengals, where he had 751 receptions for 10,783 yards and 66 touchdowns.

In 2011, he was traded to the Patriots, where he struggled in limited duty. There he appeared in 15 games and managed just 15 receptions and a single touchdown. Johnson signed with the Dolphins in June 2012, but was released two months later following his arrest on domestic violence charges. He has been out of the NFL since.

The Alouettes, meanwhile, went 8-10 last season.
