The Packers have agreed to terms with quarterback and former seventh-round pick Matt Flynn, according to several reports.

There was a time not long ago that we were talking about Flynn as the next Kevin Kolb. This isn't meant as a slight although that's how it now comes across. Two years ago -- and four years into his career as Aaron Rodgers' backup -- Flynn had exactly two NFL starts on his resume. But those two starts were something.

Against the Patriots in Week 15 of the 2010 season, Flynn completed 65 percent of his passes -- including three touchdowns -- for 251 yards. Almost a year later, this time a Week 17 game vs. the Lions, Flynn went 31 of 44 (71 percent) for 480 yards and 6 touchdowns.

And those performances led to speculation that, once Flynn hit free agency March 2012, he might be looking at a Kolb-ian $63 million payday.

It never happened.

Instead, Flynn signed a modest three-year, $26 million deal with the Seahawks, where he appeared to be the frontrunner for the starting job. And then, weeks later, Seattle drafted Russell Wilson in the third round.

Flynn was traded to the Raiders after the 2012 season. In October 2013, Oakland released him, and after a short stop in Buffalo, his NFL journey came full circle when he signed with the Packers. In five starts for an injured Rodgers, he completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,146 yards, with 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
