The 49ers are apparently not happy with running back LaMichael James, enough so that they're reportedly trying to trade him away. They haven't found a partner yet, but that doesn't mean James is interested in attending the start of San Francisco's offseason workout program.
According to CSN Bay Area, James is training in Texas right now. Considering his 49ers teammates are training a little bit west of there, that means James is staying away from the team's voluntary (wink, wink) workouts.
James isn't necessarily missing any important on-field work. The first two weeks of the program are more about strength and conditioning than learning about whatever changes the team has made to its offensive schemes. But the 2012 second-round pick also probably isn't ingratiating himself with his bosses either.
He's also apparently giving up some money -- his contract for 2014 calls for a $50,000 workout bonus.
Another potential roadblock for James to earn playing time in San Francisco behind Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter is Marcus Lattimore, who sounds like he's more than ready to take the field for the first time in 18 months.
And considering he tweeted this last October, it sounds like James is just ready to move on.
