The Raiders hold the fifth overall pick in this week's NFL Draft and they have plenty of needs. And while you would have to go back to 2002 to find the last quarterback to lead Oakland to a winning record (yes, that would be Rich Gannon), sources tell Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle that the team isn't really considering Blake Bortles or Johnny Manziel with that first-round pick.

Some of that has to do with trading for Matt Schaub this offseason -- and coach Dennis Allen promptly naming him the 2014 starter. And some of it, no doubt, has to do with there being no clear-cut Andrew Luck-type quarterback in this draft.

Of course, Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie isn't just going to come out and say that.

"What [trading for Schaub] does is just give us some stability at that position, and we needed that," McKenzie said Thursday, via Tafur. "Because we traded for Schaub does that mean we're going to bypass a [quarterback] that we've got graded a certain way? No."

And maybe McKenzie's serious about that. Just because they team reportedly isn't interested in Bortles or Manziel doesn't mean they don't like someone else. Like, say, Derek Carr, who played at Fresno St. and could go in the first round.

In March, David White of the Fresno Bee reported that the Raiders had a "massive crush" on Carr, though not at No. 5. Put another way: If Oakland is able to trade out of the pick, then quarterback remains very much in the first-round mix.

In the latest CBSSports.com mock drafts, three experts have the Raiders taking wide receiver Sammy Watkins or offensive tackle Jake Matthews, while two think Manziel will be the choice.

We'll know one way or the other Thursday night, but McKenzie hasn't been afraid to play musical chairs with his quarterbacks -- in 14 months, he traded Carson Palmer, traded and cut Matt Flynn, drafted Tyler Wilson (in the fourth round) and cut him, promoted undrafted rookie free-agent Matt McGloin to starter, traded Terrelle Pryor and traded for Schaub.

And until McKenzie finds the right one we don't expect that will change. So, yeah, good luck to you, Schaub.
