2014 NFL Draft: Browns get A for drafting Johnny Manziel

NEW YORK -- The wait is finally over for Johnny Manziel.

After nearly 2 hours and 45 minutes of waiting in the green room, the Browns traded up to No. 22 overall and drafted Manziel.

The Eagles gave up No. 22 overall for Cleveland's No. 26 and the Browns' third-round pick (No. 83 overall).

With his improvisational skills and his sense of courage, Manziel could be the next step in the evolution of the NFL quarterback. Or he could be a tremendous bust and fail out of the league completely because he can't run a pro-style offense and/or stay healthy after taking so many hits.

CBSSports.com senior writer Pete Prisco likes it:

That was the consensus on the Texas A&M star quarterback heading into the draft -- or really, ever since he became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy after the 2012 season.

But that uncertainty didn't stop the Browns, who had already drafted cornerback Justin Gilbert at No. 8, from taking Manziel later in the first round.

And why not? The Browns need help at quarterback, unless they somehow believed that Brian Hoyer was the quarterback of the future. There surely was much rejoicing among the Dawg Pound.

But questions still exist about whether Manziel can succeed in the NFL. Manziel obviously had huge success in college, but we don't know if Manziel's athleticism can overpower a front-seven intent on pulling him down to the turf. And though Manziel can be magical when he's scrambling, it's unclear just how effective he can be if he remains in the pocket.

Manziel attempted to answer some of the queries at his pro day, and though at least one coach called the performance a sideshow, Manziel also looked pretty impressive with his accuracy and touch.

Here are the possible terms:

Clearly, the newest Browns administration liked what it saw, and now Manziel can go about his job of proving that its faith is well-founded and/or well-grounded.
