The Browns solved (or attempted to solve anyway) their long-term quarterback problem during the 2014 NFL Draft, picking up Johnny Manziel with the 22nd overall selection.

That didn't preclude them from exploring other avenues though: CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported Tuesday the Browns offered the Redskins a fourth-round pick for their backup quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The Redskins, however, rebuffed the trade.

A perfect situation would've been for the Browns -- or someone else -- to trade for Cousins prior to the draft and avoid grabbing a quarterback. Cleveland, where Kyle Shanahan is coaching, makes a ton of sense.

But the value apparently wasn't there for Washington, who's coming closer and closer to drafting Cousins and never getting any real value for him as a result outside of him being a backup.

2014 should be plenty awkward.
