Mike Zimmer, second-year linebacker out of Illinois, meet Mike Zimmer, your new head coach.

Among the signings announced by the Vikings on Monday was the acquisition of one Mike Zimmer, an undrafted free agent last year who spent training camp in 2013 with the Jaguars. He played in all four Jacksonville preseason games, recording a single tackle.

Zimmer (the player) tried out for the Vikings during last weekend's rookie mini-camp and clearly did enough to earn a longer look from the organization.

Oh, and in case you were wondering ...

Unlike Adam Zimmer, the team's linebacker coach who's actually the son of Mike Zimmer (the coach). Making matters even more interesting is that, as ESPN's Kevin Seifert is quick to point out, both Mike Zimmers attended Illinois State.

Which is where Mike Zimmer (the player) had a standout career, recording 127 tackles as a senior and earning first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors.

And really, this is just the axiom of the day.
