In news that should surprise no one, the Jets have released running back Mike Goodson, a day after he failed to show for the first day of mandatory minicamp.

On Tuesday, coach Rex Ryan appeared miffed at Goodson's absence, and had no explanation for the running back's whereabouts.

"I recognize the fact that he's not here, and that situation will be dealt with," Ryan said.

Goodson's agent, Kennard McGuire, released this statement Tuesday: "Mike must be accountable and responsible for his own actions and comprehend not only effective communication but simple communication."

Trouble has plauged Goodson since he signed a three-year, $6.9 million contract last offseason. He earned a four-game suspension to begin the '13 season, and then played in just two games before suffering an ACL injury. Goodson is also facing weapons charges stemming from a November indictment.

In the last 16 months, Goodson has a total of 11 touches for 80 yards. A 2009 fourth-round pick, he spent the first four years of his career in Carolina, where he rushed for 501 yards in 28 games (4.0 YPC), had 329 receiving yards (7.7 YPR) and scored three touchdowns.

The Jets, meanwhile, seem content to move forward with Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell at running back.
