Panthers backup tackle Andrew McDonald underwent testicular cancer surgery last month, but the third-year player expects to return to practice by training camp in July. He also said, via the AP, that doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

McDonald noticed a bump on one of his testicles recently, and after meeting with doctors on May 19, they diagnosed him with testicular cancer and operated the next day. He said doctors think the cancer has not spread.

"It's out and right now I should be all good," McDonald said. "It was obviously surprising news. They scheduled surgery for the next day, so it kind of hits you all at once. But I just made up my mind not to get down or let it affect me and stay positive. It has worked out, so thank God for that."

McDonald might be best known as "Player A" from the Dolphins report investigated by Ted Wells, who reported that McDonald had been given a male sex doll as a Christmas gag gift by former offensive line coach Jim Turner and who had been called names by Richie Incognito, John Jerry and Mike Pouncey. McDonald was released by Miami in 2012.

After that report came out, McDonald's agent, Bret Tessler released a statement saying, "While Andrew can't speak for other players involved in the report, he personally has had no problem with the Miami Dolphins organization and has the highest opinion of coach Turner both personally and professionally and feels terrible about the way their relationship has been portrayed in the report."
