After missing all of last season with a torn Achilles tendon and a couple months after the Patriots cut him loose, five-time Pro Bowl safety Adrian Wilson has a new job in Chicago.

The Bears announced Monday they had signed Wilson, who was so strong most of last decade with the Cardinals, to a one-year deal.

Arizona cut Wilson in March 2013, and he signed with the Patriots on a three-year, $5 million deal. Though he was slated to be the starting strong safety at the beginning of training camp, there were reports that he was actually on the roster bubble when he injured his Achilles.

He was expected to be ready for offseason workouts, but New England released him in April.

Assuming he plays strong safety, we assume Wilson -- one of only four defensive backs in NFL history with at least 25 interceptions and at least 25 sacks -- will compete with Ryan Mundy and M.D. Jennings for playing time in Chicago.

The move was not universally applauded when it was announced.

Chicago also announced it had signed tight end Jeron Mastrud, who started 12 games last season for Oakland.
