Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, every decade has produced at least one dynasty. The 1970s gave us the 'Steel Curtain.' The 1980s produced a 49ers team that won three Super Bowls. The 1990s brought us the three-time champion Cowboys and in the early 2000s there was the Patriots.

So who will be the team of this decade?

Former San Francisco quarterback Joe Montana thinks it can be the Seahawks. In an interview on NFL Network this week, Montana was asked if he thought Seattle was 'on the verge of becoming the next great dynasty."

"I think they have the capability to," Montana said. "When you look at the way the team is put together, they're young, they're aggressive; their coach is very aggressive and upbeat. Anytime you can make going to work fun, even though you're playing as I say 'a stupid game for a living,' it makes going to that facility every day really a joy. When you're having fun at what you're doing, you're always a lot better at it."

Interestingly, Montana didn't bring up his own former team. If the Seahawks are going to turn into a dynasty, they're going to have to continuously make the playoffs out of a division that's produced four of the past six NFC title game participants.

Over the past three seasons, the 49ers have gone to a Super Bowl, three straight NFC Championship games and produced a 36-11-1 record. On the other hand, the Seahawks have made the playoffs twice, won a Lombardi Trophy and produced a 31-17 record.

Of course, Montana just might recognize a budding dynasty when he sees one. During the 80s, the ex-49ers took San Francisco to the playoffs eight times in 10 years and won three Super Bowls.
