Brett Favre played in the NFL and was on the receiving end of plenty of big hits during that time. Now three years into retirement, the future Hall of Famer says that if he had a son he'd be hesitant to let him play football.

“It's a violent sport, and for two reasons I don't know if I'd let him play,” Favre told Mississippi's WDAM (via PFT). “The pressures to, you know, live up to what your dad had done, but most importantly the damage that is done by playing. I don't know if I would let him play.”

If the message sounds familiar, it should; Favre said as much in November, telling the Today Show's Matt Lauer that, "I would be real leery of him playing," adding: "In some respects, I'm almost glad I don't have a son because of the pressures he would face. Also the physical toll that it could possibly take on him, not to mention if he never made it, he's gonna be a failure in everyone's eyes. But more the physical toll that it could take."

Favre also spoke of "scary" memory issues he's faced since leaving the game.

"I think to me the wakeup call was (wife) Deanna and I were talking recently, and she was talking about Breleigh, our youngest, playing soccer," Favre said last fall. "I've pretty much made every game that she's ever played (in) basketball, volleyball. She played softball one year, she played basketball a couple years. As I find out, she played soccer. I don't remember her playing soccer. She played right over here, and that was probably where my first inclination that something ain't right."

In 20 NFL seasons, Favre was sacked 525 times. He now spends his time in Mississippi coaching high school football, growing an impressive beard and throwing his support behind political candidates.
