Welcome back, confident Rex Ryan. Oh, how we've missed you.

Although Ryan narrowly kept his job last season after leading the Jets to an 8-8 record -- seriously, it might be the most impressive 8-8 performance I've ever seen if you look at the team's talent deficiencies -- he's back to being uber-confident only days before the team enters training camp.

In interviews with the NY Daily News and the NY Post, Ryan declared a couple things about himself.

1) He's one helluva coach.

"Do I think that I'm a great coach? I absolutely know I'm a great coach," Ryan said. "But it's not just about me. What makes a great coach is the people that surround you, the people that are with you every day. There's guys that help me be a great coach. My players help me be a great coach ...

"I'm not saying that I'm the best or whatever… or the best of all time. I just know that I'm the best that I can be. I know that I'm willing to do the work. I may have limitations. I get that. But nobody's going to convince me that they're more passionate about their job than I am … and that they're more passionate about their organization than me."

2) He's not worried about the hot seat.

"Not for one second do I worry about where I'm going to be next year. The opportunity that's in front of me is what I cherish. And I'm ready for it. I believe in this football team. No if, ands or buts about it."

3) He's not focused on the Patriots.

"Somebody asked me if we focus on New England. Bullshit,” Ryan said in June. “We're focused on us. We're focused on us and how are we going to be better"

4) He thinks the Patriots should be thinking hard about the Jets.

"I have to be honest, I don't worry about them. They need to worry about us. I think that's really where we're at now.”

Whatever happens this year -- if Ryan survives for another season or loses his job -- let it be known that he and his confidence are always a welcome respite from the drudgery of day-to-day NFL offseason life.
