There have been many photos of Browns QB Johnny Manziel taken this offseason. At least one reportedly appears to be Manziel with a rolled-up bill in a Vegas bathroom.
Everyone wants to know if the Browns will talk to him about it and the answer is they already have. Mike Pettine told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer he spoke with Manziel and once training camp starts "that stuff should not be an issue."
"I don't want to get into a [public] discussion of every picture that comes out, but I talked to him about it,'' Pettine said. "We anticipate this will quiet down once the season starts. As committed as Johnny is to football, this stuff should not be an issue once camp gets underway."
Clearly there was a need to clarify the "money photo" in question: Manziel's signature move is the money sign so, really, every photo is a money photo.
Asked specifically about the money phone photo, Pettine says he believes it could be an old photo.
"I haven't verified it, but somebody told me that it wasn't recent,'' Pettine said.
It's been a fun offseason for Manziel but the rubber meets the proverbial road on Wednesday, when the Browns report to training camp.
There will be watchful, judging eyeballs from all over the world glaring at Berea, Ohio, rooting for Manziel to slip up on the field and justify criticism of the flashy rookie.
Manziel turned Cleveland into a marketing machine this offseason (he's No. 1 in NFL jersey sales; the Browns are the third-ranked team). Now we find out whether he can improve the on-field product as well.
