The Chargers signed Danny Woodhead as a free agent last offseason after he spent the previous three seasons in New England, and the running back certainly showed off his versatility, combining for 1,034 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns.

On Tuesday, he was rewarded for it, as San Diego announced it had signed him to a two-year contract extension.

“Danny is an integral part of our offense,” general manager Tom Telesco said in a statement. “His work ethic and on-field production were key elements last year. We look forward to having him be a part of the Chargers organization into the future.”

In 2013, Woodhead recorded a career-high 76 catches out of the backfield, and he finished first among all running backs in receptions and second with six touchdowns. He also recorded 262 kickoff return yards, bringing his all-purpose total to 1,296 yards.

Overall, a strong season for Woodhead.
