For all the talk about Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer and who possibly will win the Browns starting quarterback job -- right now, safety Donte Hitner says the locker room is split 50-50 -- here's something most of us didn't see coming.

What if Cleveland signed ANOTHER quarterback?

That possibility hit us in the face Tuesday when the Browns announced they had signed journeyman Rex Grossman to the squad.

Let's be clear: Grossman won't be a candidate for the starting job unless both Manziel and Hoyer get injured, but it's not a bad move because Grossman does have plenty of experience.

Grossman is an 11-year veteran who's played for the Bears, Texans and Redskins. Which probably was fortuitous since the man who was the offensive coordinator in Houston and Washington during his time in those places was Kyle Shanahan, who is now the offensive coordinator in Cleveland.

Grossman last played an actual game in 2011 where he started 13 contests for the Redskins and went 5-8. That season, he completed 57.9 percent of his passes for 3,151 yards, 16 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

He worked out Monday for the Dolphins, though Brady Quinn ultimately got that job.

But now Grossman is in Cleveland, and as one of my buddies sarcastically messaged me moments after the news was released: "Screw Manziel. They have Grossman now. Troubles are over."
