Hear ye, hear ye: if you put Johnny Manziel on national TV, ratings are probably going to be good. Like, really good. Like, maybe the best ever.
And thus, the Browns-Lions preseason game the NFL Network televised last weekend did just fine in the ratings.
The Browns-Lions preseason game was the most-watched preseason game ever on NFL Network with 2.82 million viewers. #JohnnyFootball— John Ourand (@Ourand_SBJ) August 12, 2014
To put that in perspective ...
The Clev-Det game (Manziel) on NFLN not only set rating record 4 preseason,it crushed it. 2.8 mil v 2.07 mil 4 NOLA-Pit in '07, 36% up— daniel kaplan (@dkaplanSBJ) August 12, 2014
Though Manziel certainly wasn't perfect vs. the Lions -- in my eyes, he was about as good as Brian Hoyer, who was decent but not spectacular -- he reportedly has pulled ahead of Hoyer in the race to land the starting quarterback job (even if coach Mike Pettine denies the report).
The Browns next preseason game will come vs. the Redskins next Monday where it will be televised nationally by ESPN.
And you can expect the ratings for preseason game No. 2 to be even higher. Mostly because Cleveland signed this guy Tuesday.
