The Chargers might have given up on Larry English, but the Buccaneers are hoping he still has something left in the tank. The 16th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft signed with Tampa Bay on Thursday, less than a month after being released by San Diego.

After spending five seasons as a linebacker with the Chargers, English will make the move to defensive end in coach Lovie Smith's 4-3 defense.

During his five-year run with the Chargers, English only started in a total of nine games. The 28-year-old battled injuries during most of his time in San Diego, including in 2013 when he suffered a torn biceps injury against the Broncos in Week 10 that put him out for the rest of the year.

English's rookie season in 2009 was the only time he made it through the Chargers entire 16-game schedule unscathed.

In five years with the Chargers, English racked up a total of 11 sacks, including 2.5 in 2013 before he suffered that season-ending injury.

To make room on the roster for English, the Buccaneers waived rookie defensive tackle Jibreel Black.
