Former Titans linebacker Tim Shaw announced on a video at the team's website, which also served as his Ice Bucket Challenge, that he's been diagnosed with ALS.

Shaw was taken in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Panthers out of Penn State and also played for the Bears and Jaguars before wrapping up his career with the Titans from 2010 on through his retirement last year.

"A year ago I was playing NFL football. I've recently been diagnosed with ALS," Shaw says. "I'm here today to stand up and fight with all of you against this disease."

Shaw then is shown taking the Ice Bucket Challenge, which at this point you hopefully know about -- viral isn't even a description of it, with the ALS Association announcing than $22 million raised in proceeds to fight ALS.

"I want to challenge the Tennessee Titans organization, Coach Franklin and the Penn State football team and my Clarenceville community," Shaw says. "Let's do this."

ALS is a horrible disease, period. But two notable former NFL players have been severely affected by it. O.J. Brigance of the Ravens and Steve Gleason of the Saints.

Gleason's good friend Scott Fujita, previously of the Saints and Browns, makes a strong point for why the challenge is so important.
