Haloti Ngata strikes an imposing figure, even on the football field. So it was hard to miss the 6-foot-4, 340-pound defensive lineman running down the field and kicking a Redskins player during Baltimore's 23-17 preseason win Saturday.

Redskins guard Shawn Lauvao steamrolled Ravens cornerback Dominique Franks near the end of Alfred Morris' 19-yard run and a beat later, Lauvao was on the receiving end of Ngata's right foot.

"When I saw Lauvao do that, I kind of was just pissed that he was doing that and just nudged him," Ngata said, according to the Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson. "Kind of a heat-of-the-moment thing. That was the only thing. I was just trying to protect my player. ...

"No disrespect to Shawn because we know each other. It was the heat of the moment, and just was mad that he tried a late hit."

Ngata wasn't flagged on the play (the officials were no doubt too busy looking for illegal contact and defensive holding infractions) and Lauvao seemed unharmed. But Ngata will almost certainly face a fine from the league office.
