Word came down last week of a three-game suspension for Jerome Simpson following his DUI arrest from the previous year. And word came down Friday of the NFL upholding the suspension following Simpson's appeal, the Vikings confirmed.

Simpson was suspended three games at the beginning of 2012 as well, for a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy.

"Jerome Simpson of the Minnesota Vikings has been suspended without pay for the first three games of the 2014 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse," the league said in a statement. "Simpson will be eligible to return to the Vikings' active roster on Monday, September 22 following the team's September 21 game against the New Orleans Saints."

Simpson posted a career-high 726 yards on 48 catches with a single touchdown in 2013.
