Fantasy sleepers who won't be sleepers by draft day

By Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Don't you hate it when your Fantasy sleepers get lots of early ink? It happens every year.

Guys who are sleepers in the spring lose some or all of their value by the time draft day rolls around. Experts tout them as sleepers. Soon your friend, who had never heard of Latavius Murray, is talking him up at the draft, showing how smart he is. And now there's no way he's lasting until the 11th round.

For the purpose of this blog, we're defining sleeper as a highly undervalued player relative to where they're drafted.

Giovani Bernard was going as low as 97th (top of 9th round!) last year until a constant drumbeat of praise took its toll. He shot as high as 39th (early 4th) before settling in as a 5th- or 6th-rounder. Bernard still delivered value, but wasn't nearly a steal.

We could see the same thing in 2014 with Toby Gerhart, Kenny Stills, Robert Griffin III and Jarrett Boykin, to name a few. They're all getting strong Fantasy pub, for good reason.

Of course, the fun part is deciding how high they should go and at what point in the draft -- or at what cost in an auction -- do they lose value. No matter how much is written about sleepers, some players will seriously outperform their draft position.

And some sleepers will get so hyped, they'll fail to measure up.
