Can Mike Williams resurrect his career in Buffalo?

Wideout Mike Williams arrives in Buffalo with tons of baggage, off an injury-plagued season. He doesn't crack Jamey Eisenberg's top 60 receivers for 2014.

But he's worth monitoring. Would you believe he was the No. 17 Fantasy wideout in 2012? The No. 11 wideout in 2010? He's 6-2, 212 pounds and plays bigger when he's right. He caught 11 touchdowns as a rookie, nine in 2012. The Bills brought him in because they needed a big red-zone target.

Williams is coming home. He's reuniting with his college coach, Doug Marrone. Ironically, Williams was either kicked off the team or quit during his first year with the Orange.

“We feel Mike is a player who has the ability to help our team improve. With regard to our time at Syracuse, I feel that is in the past for both of us,” Marrone told the Buffalo News. “Today, Mike has an opportunity to get a fresh start to his career here in his hometown and regain his form as a productive player in the National Football League.”

The Bills are expected to retain Steve Johnson, but if they release him (and his $8.5 million cap hit) Williams would become immediately relevant starting opposite Robert Woods. As it is Williams is worth tracking throughout the spring and summer, especially if Buffalo does not draft a receiver early.

Williams turns 27 next month.

"Though he is not a burner (4.5 speed), Williams is adept at getting behind defenses with his sharp and effective route running," according to Chris Brown of the team's website. "He's also exceptional at high-pointing the ball, which has made him an effective red zone target."
