Does Chris Ivory still have Fantasy value?

I just finished the preseason outlooks for the Jets, and we've already touched on their most recent addition with the signing of Chris Johnson. But what about the guy he's replacing in Chris Ivory?

I don't mind passing on Johnson, who will likely be drafted in Round 4 or 5, and waiting for Ivory in Round 9 or later as a reserve running back. He might prove to be the better bargain.

We know Ivory is injury prone (he missed time in 2013 with a hamstring problem and struggled to stay healthy with the Saints) and is limited as a receiver (he has five career catches). But overall he was the better runner than Johnson last year.

Johnson averaged 3.9 yards per carry with the Titans in 2013, while Ivory had 4.6. And when Ivory got the ball last year he was a beast.

He had five games in 2013 with at least 15 carries, and he had double digits in Fantasy points in all five outings. By comparison, Johnson had 10 games with at least 15 carries and had double digits in Fantasy points in only four of those contests. He had seven games with double digits in Fantasy points overall based on his performance as a receiver.

Johnson could easily dominate this backfield if he's motivated and turns back the clock. ESPN reported that Johnson could do for the Jets what LaDainian Tomlinson did in 2010 after he was let go by the Chargers, and that's not a stretch.

But Ivory could also run for 1,000 yards -- he had 833 yards last year -- and score six touchdowns, and waiting for him on Draft Day could be the smarter move. It's the draft strategy I would use if you want a Jets running back on your team.
