| Oakland Raiders 35, Buffalo Bills 38 | ||
| 27 | This is a long trip for the Raiders on a short week. That's tough. But I liked what I saw from them Monday night. Their defensive front was sensational against Denver. I think that carries over here. They get after Ryan Fitzpatrick all day long. Darren McFadden has another big day. The Raiders get to 2-0. Result: Oakland Raiders 35, Buffalo Bills 38 | |

| Green Bay Packers 30, Carolina Panthers 23 | ||
| 37 | The Packers will be rested, having played last Thursday. The Panthers are coming off a West Coast trip, which can be tough. Edge Green Bay. But much more important than that is the Panthers secondary is dreadful. Look for Aaron Rodgers to light them up. And Cam Newton will have his rookie moments in this game. The Packers take it in a big way. Result: Green Bay Packers 30, Carolina Panthers 23 | |
| 20 | ||
| Kansas City Chiefs 3, Detroit Lions 48 | ||
| 27 | The Lions looked great in their opener. The Chiefs looked horrible. So expect a reversal of fortune? Not a chance. The Chiefs will play better than they did a week ago, and keep it closer than expected, but the Lions are the better team and they are at home. I'll take Matt Stafford over Matt Cassel, but the Chiefs will hang around. Result: Detroit Lions 48, Kansas City Chiefs 3 | |
| 20 | ||
| Cleveland Browns 27, Indianapolis Colts 19 | ||
| 21 | Can the Colts be that bad without Peyton Manning? I say no. They got caught up in an ambush at Houston. Being back home will change that. The Browns didn't exactly light things up against the Bengals. Kerry Collins shows big improvement and the veteran Colts find a way here. Result: Indianapolis Colts 19, Cleveland Browns 27 | |
| 16 | ||
| Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24, Minnesota Vikings 20 | ||
| 21 | This is a battle between two teams that didn't look good last week. Tampa Bay looked sluggish on offense and couldn't stop the Lions. Donovan McNabb looked old and broken down. Josh Freeman is too good to have two bad games in a row. I say he bounces back against the Vikings and gets the road victory. Result: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24, Minnesota Vikings 20 | |
| 17 | ||
| Chicago Bears 13, New Orleans Saints 30 | ||
| 27 | The Bears blew out the Falcons, another NFC South team, last week. But this week it's a South team playing at home, one that is wounded and rested. That's a bad combination. The Saints have had 10 days to fix a defense that was horrible at Green Bay. I think they do enough to get their first victory of the season. Result: New Orleans Saints 30, Chicago Bears 13 | |
| 17 | ||
| Jacksonville Jaguars 3, NY Jets 32 | ||
| 23 | The Jaguars went to New York late in 2009 and pushed the Jets around in an upset victory. They match up well with them. The Jets aren't a pass-heavy team, which are the types of teams that give the Jaguars problems. I look for both teams to run it a lot in what should be a close game. The Jets take it. But it won't be easy. Result: NY Jets 32, Jacksonville Jaguars 3 | |
| 20 | ||
| Seattle Seahawks 0, Pittsburgh Steelers 24 | ||
| 21 | I feel sorry for the Seahawks here. The Steelers were embarrassed against the Ravens. So they get the perfect tonic to fix all that ails them in Seattle, a team playing a second consecutive road game. The Steelers defense will be all over Tarvaris Jackson, forcing turnovers that will turn into points. It will be a feeding frenzy. Result: Pittsburgh Steelers 24, Seattle Seahawks 0 | |
| 17 | ||
| Baltimore Ravens 13, Tennessee Titans 26 | ||
| 21 | This is a be-careful game for the Ravens. They are coming off a big division victory over a rival and they face a team in their home opener. The Titans have always played the Ravens tough, and I think they will here as well. They won't win, but they keep it close. Result: Baltimore Ravens 13, Tennessee Titans 26 | |
| 17 | ||
| Arizona Cardinals 21, Washington Redskins 22 | ||
| 20 | Are the Redskins for real? They sure looked it against the Giants. Arizona has problems on defense. Cam Newton shredded them. That forced Kevin Kolb to have a big day. I think he struggles here. The Redskins defense is much improved -- and it shows. Washington gets to 2-0. Result: Washington Redskins 22, Arizona Cardinals 21 | |
| 14 | ||
| Dallas Cowboys 27, San Francisco 49ers 24 | ||
| 23 | It's tough opening the season with two consecutive road games like the Cowboys have to do here, but it's even tougher when you blew the opener the way they did. Tony Romo has to bounce back. The 49ers didn't do a lot on offense against Seattle and the Cowboys are a better defensive team. Look for the Cowboys to shut down the 49ers and for Romo to make amends for last week. Result: Dallas Cowboys 27, San Francisco 49ers 24 | |
| 13 | ||
| Cincinnati Bengals 22, Denver Broncos 24 | ||
| 25 | The Broncos didn't look good in losing Monday night to the Raiders. Now they have to respond on a short week. Cincinnati looked good on defense in upsetting the Browns. That doesn't show here. I think Kyle Orton and the Denver passing game gets it rolling. No more chants for Tim Tebow. Result: Denver Broncos 24, Cincinnati Bengals 22 | |
| 14 | ||
| Houston Texans 23, Miami Dolphins 13 | ||
| 24 | The Dolphins are 0-6 against the Texans in this series. They've never beaten them? That's just weird. And this Houston team is better than all the rest. The Texans can throw it. After seeing what Tom Brady did to the Dolphins defense Monday night, you can bet the Texans will do the same. But I think the Texans put a lot into preparing for the Colts game. The Dolphins aren't that bad on defense, and Chad Henne showed he could put up some passing numbers. The Dolphins get their first victory. Result: Miami Dolphins 13, Houston Texans 23 | |
| 21 | ||
| San Diego Chargers 21, New England Patriots 35 | ||
| 33 | You need good cover people and an aggressive front to match up with Tom Brady and that passing game. You have to hit him. San Diego has the tools to do it. But can they actually slow him down? This might be a classic shootout, Brady vs. Philip Rivers throw for throw. First one to 30 wins? I'll take the Pats at home. Result: New England Patriots 35, San Diego Chargers 21 | |
| 30 | ||
| Philadelphia Eagles 31, Atlanta Falcons 35 | ||
| 27 | The Falcons looked horrible last week. But the Eagles are playing a second consecutive road game to open the season. That's tough. Both offensive lines struggled last week. They have to be better. In a loud dome, that could provide problems for the Eagles. I look for the Falcons pass rush to get after Mike Vick in his first start back in Atlanta. This will be a fun one. But Atlanta is in desperation mode -- and it shows. Result: Atlanta Falcons 35, Philadelphia Eagles 31 | |
| 24 | ||
| Monday, Sep. 19, 2011 | ||
| St. Louis Rams 16, NY Giants 28 | ||
| 28 | The Rams are hurting. They could be without Steven Jackson. Danny Amendola is lost for a while with a dislocated elbow and corner Ronald Bartell is gone for maybe the season. And they have to go on the road to face a Giants team that lost their opener? Add in Sam Bradford's injured finger? This is a tough spot for the Rams, even though Bradford will stay. The Giants at home on a Monday night will get the offense cranked up after a tough go of it against the Redskins. Result: NY Giants 28, St. Louis Rams 16 | |
