MATCHUP SCORE ANALYSIS

Denver
Broncos
23
Trevor Siemian will be making his first NFL start -- and throwing his first real NFL pass -- in this one for Denver. Thatís a lot of pressure. But it helps heís at home and he has that defense behind him. The Broncos got all over Cam Newton in the Super Bowl last February, and I expect the same here. The Broncos find a way late, even with their young passer.
Result: Denver Broncos 21, Carolina Panthers 20

Atlanta
Falcons
24
This is a game matching two teams who think they can make big steps forward this season. Both teams have defensive issues and quarterbacks who will need to carry their teams. In this one, I think Matt Ryan gets the best of his former coach, Mike Smith, now the defensive coordinator in Tampa Bay.
Result: Atlanta Falcons 24, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31
Tampa Bay
Buccaneers
17

Baltimore
Ravens
27
The Bills have all kinds of injury issues and suspensions on defense that will factor here. Joe Flacco is back healthy again and he will take advantage of the Buffalo defense. The Bills wonít keep up on the road. The Ravens take it out on their old defensive coordinator, Rex Ryan.
Result: Baltimore Ravens 13, Buffalo Bills 7
Buffalo
Bills
17

Houston
Texans
16
The Texans have injury issues on their line, which will be a factor. The Bears are improved up front and should be able to slow the Texans offense. That will make it a tight one. The Texans will find a way late to pull it out, but it wonít be pretty.
Result: Houston Texans 23, Chicago Bears 14
Chicago
Bears

Jacksonville
Jaguars
24
The heat will be bad in this early game, which could impact the Packers. They wonít be used to it. The Jaguars are much improved on defense, but this is a stiff first test with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Even so, I think the Jaguars will win it late when the Packers wilt in the Florida heat.
Result: Jacksonville Jaguars 23, Green Bay Packers 27
Green Bay
Packers

Kansas City
Chiefs
17
The Chiefs will be without top pass rusher Justin Houston for a while, so they will have to find a way to get to Philip Rivers. The Chargers look improved, but this is a tough place to open the season. The Chiefs will win a tight one.
Result: Kansas City Chiefs 33, San Diego Chargers 27
San Diego
Chargers
13

Oakland
Raiders
23
This is a long trip for a young team that has a lot of expectations in the Raiders. Winning in the Superdome is always tough. Drew Brees should again be ready to roll up big numbers, but somehow the Raiders will pull this one out in the end for a tough road victory.
Result: Oakland Raiders 35, New Orleans Saints 34
New Orleans
Saints

Cincinnati
Bengals
27
The Bengals have a ton of talent, and have the look of a playoff team heading into the season again. This is tough way to open the season on the road, but Andy Dalton being back will get them off to a right start. Cincinnati will win both lines to win the game.
Result: Cincinnati Bengals 23, NY Jets 22
New York
Jets
20

Philadelphia
Eagles
26
The Browns have major issues on defense and they are hoping Robert Griffin III can get his career jump-started again. But this is a tough opener against the Eagles. I expect the Philadelphia offense to be good here against an overmatched Browns defense -- even with Carson Wentz making his first NFL start.
Result: Philadelphia Eagles 29, Cleveland Browns 10
Cleveland
Browns
10

Minnesota
Vikings
19
This is likely going to be Sam Bradford starting after cramming to learn the offense. We think anyway. Thatís fine. The Vikings win with the running game and defense. They will do so here. This might be a quick game since both teams want to run it.
Result: Minnesota Vikings 25, Tennessee Titans 16
Tennessee
Titans
17

Seattle
Seahawks
28
This is a long trip for the Dolphins -- the longest in the NFL. And itís a tough place to play. Ryan Tannehill will face a fierce defense in his first start for new coach Adam Gase. The Seattle offensive line is a concern, but Russell Wilson will make enough plays to win it.
Result: Seattle Seahawks 12, Miami Dolphins 10
Miami
Dolphins
17

New York
Giants
21
Dak Prescott makes his first NFL start against a tough division rival. The Giants spent big to improve their defense, and it will provide a nice challenge for the rookie. He looked good in the preseason, but he will see a lot of new looks. Eli Manning finds a way late to win it.
Result: NY Giants 20, Dallas Cowboys 19
Dallas
Cowboys
17

Indianapolis
Colts
31
The Colts will be fine on offense with Andrew Luck back, but their defense has major issues, especially rushing the passer. That could mean a shootout here with Matthew Stafford against Luck. In the end, Luck will get the better of it.
Result: Indianapolis Colts 35, Detroit Lions 39
Detroit
Lions
24

Arizona
Cardinals
30
Jimmy Garoppolo will be making his first NFL start in this one. Thatís a tough duty against all the exotic looks the Cardinals will throw at him. The Patriots defense has looked much improved over a year ago, but this is an explosive Arizona offense. Cardinals take it.
Result: Arizona Cardinals 21, New England Patriots 23
New England
Patriots

Pittsburgh
Steelers
30
This is a tough way to open the season for the Steelers, especially without LeíVeon Bell. The Redskins feel like theyíve made big-time improvements since last season. This is a good first test for their defense. I think the Steelers win a shootout.
Result: Pittsburgh Steelers 38, Washington Redskins 16
Washington
Redskins
27

Los Angeles
Rams
16
This is a game featuring two teams with major quarterback issues. The Rams will start Case Keenum, while the 49ers will go with Blaine Gabbert. I think the 49ers are in for a long season, and the Rams defense will clamp down on Gabbert and take this game.
Result: Los Angeles Rams 0, San Francisco 49ers 28
San Francisco
49ers
10
