MATCHUP SCORE ANALYSIS
Thursday, Sep. 19, 2013

Philadelphia
Eagles
30
The Eagles can score. The Chiefs have been really good on defense. Something has to give. I say it's the Chiefs' defense that gives a little. Mike Vick and the offense will have some success down the field against the Chiefs. The Eagles defense has been awful, but it is better here against a Chiefs offense that is just OK.
Result: Philadelphia Eagles 16, Kansas City Chiefs 26

Baltimore
Ravens
21
The Texans embarrassed the Ravens last year in the regular season. But that was at Houston. Now the Ravens get their chance at home. The Ravens have struggled up front, which isn't a good thing against J.J. Watt and his mates. But I think they get it righted some here.
Result: Baltimore Ravens 30, Houston Texans 9
Houston
Texans

New York
Giants
28
Both of these teams are looking for their first victory. The Giants have turned it over 10 times in two games. That won't win a lot of games. The Panthers have struggled on offense. This is the type of game where the Giants get back refocused. Carolina is struggling more. Eli Manning has a big day.
Result: NY Giants 0, Carolina Panthers 38
Carolina
Panthers

Cincinnati
Bengals
27
The Bengals are coming off an impressive victory against the Steelers, but now must face a hot Aaron Rodgers. The Packers' line has had issues protecting Rodgers. That's not a good thing against the Bengals' defensive front. I see a turnover or two for Rodgers. Bengals take it.
Result: Cincinnati Bengals 34, Green Bay Packers 30
Green Bay
Packers
24

Dallas
Cowboys
24
The Rams are playing consecutive road games outside the division, which is always tough. The defense had some tough times against Atlanta, and I look for the Cowboys to get their share of shots down the field this week. The Dallas defense looks improved, and it shows here. Dez Bryant comes up huge.
Result: Dallas Cowboys 31, St. Louis Rams 7
St. Louis
Rams

Minnesota
Vikings
20
The Browns have done almost nothing on offense and now might be without Brandon Weeden. The line has really struggled, so I expect the Vikings to get after whoever plays quarterback. This one won't be pretty to watch, but the Vikings will get their first victory of the season.
Result: Minnesota Vikings 27, Cleveland Browns 31
Cleveland
Browns

New England
Patriots
23
The 0-2 Bucs go to New England to face a Patriots team that will have been off for 10 days. That's big. The Patriots had problems with their passing game against the Jets, but they will get it going. Tampa Bay has really struggled on offense. This could be ugly.
Result: New England Patriots 23, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3
Tampa Bay
Buccaneers

New Orleans
Saints
31
The Saints haven't exactly clicked on offense, but the defense has impressed. It's just a matter of time before they get it going on offense, and this could be the week. The Cardinals might be able to hit some plays down the field on offense, but I see Drew Brees having a big day.
Result: New Orleans Saints 31, Arizona Cardinals 7
Arizona
Cardinals

Tennessee
Titans
26
The Chargers impressed with their road victory against the Eagles, showing a lot on offense. But this Tennessee defense is much improved and this is their home opener. Plus, San Diego is on the road for a second consecutive week. The Titans should be 2-0. They get their second victory here after losing a tough one to the Texans.
Result: Tennessee Titans 20, San Diego Chargers 17
San Diego
Chargers

Washington
Redskins
31
The Lions' receivers, especially Calvin Johnson, have to be so excited to face the Redskins' secondary, which has struggled. But the Lions are playing consecutive road games outside the division, which might help negate that. Johnson will have a big day, but I see the Redskins finding a way to get their first victory.
Result: Washington Redskins 20, Detroit Lions 27
Detroit

Atlanta
Falcons
27
Are the Dolphins for real? We will know more after this one. But I have been impressed with Ryan Tannehill and their defense. This is a big step up, though. Matt Ryan is cooking, and I think he has some favorable matchups outside here. Atlanta gets a tough road victory, even if they are banged up.
Result: Atlanta Falcons 23, Miami Dolphins 27
Miami
Dolphins

New York
Jets
20
EJ Manuel vs. Geno Smith in a battle of rookie starters at quarterback. That will make for a lot of fun. Both have done some good things, but they've made their share of mistakes. I like the Jets defense to come up big here at home. Geno Smith wins it.
Result: NY Jets 27, Buffalo Bills 20
Buffalo
Bills

San Francisco
49ers
28
Andrew Luck gets to face his former college coach in Jim Harbaugh. He will do so facing a San Francisco team coming off a beating in Seattle. They will be angry. The Colts, though, can score and will move the football. I just don't think they can stop the 49ers.
Result: San Francisco 49ers 7, Indianapolis Colts 27
Indianapolis
Colts

Seattle
Seahawks
27
This is a game with a 19-point spread. Can that be? The Jaguars stayed over on the West Coast after playing Oakland, so they won't be travel weary. Does it matter? The only thing that does matter is Seattle's focus. Will they be up after the San Francisco game? I say up enough that they handle this woeful offense.
Result: Seattle Seahawks 45, Jacksonville Jaguars 17
Jacksonville
Jaguars

Pittsburgh
Steelers
20
The Steelers are in a must-win situation. They can't go 0-3 and hope to make the playoffs. They've struggled on offense and need to get it going, but the Bears are tough on defense. I see the Steelers' defense winning this one. They will force some key turnovers. Steelers get victory No. 1.
Result: Pittsburgh Steelers 23, Chicago Bears 40

Denver
Broncos
32
The Broncos are flying high, having scored more than 40 points in two consecutive games. The Raiders have done some solid things, but this is a bad matchup. The Denver offense will do what it wants against the Oakland defense, especially with safety Tyvon Branch out of the lineup. Peyton Manning has another big one.
Result: Denver Broncos 37, Oakland Raiders 21
Oakland
Raiders
