MATCHUP SCORE ANALYSIS
Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013

Seattle
Seahawks
20
This should be a defensive battle featuring two good units. The Cardinals have to get their passing game going, which means protection. Seattle will get after Carson Palmer, but I think the Cardinals will have their share of chances down the field and hit a few. It will be tight.
Result: Seattle Seahawks 34, Arizona Cardinals 22

Atlanta
Falcons
24
The Falcons are coming off their bye hurting. They lost Julio Jones for the season and might not have Roddy White. Who will Matt Ryan throw to this week? But Tampa Bay is in a free fall. The Bucs might be just what Atlanta needs to get a turnaround started. This is Mike Glennon's first road start. That matters.
Result: Atlanta Falcons 31, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23
Tampa Bay
Buccaneers

Carolina
Panthers
27
The Rams have won two consecutive games, but this is a second straight road game outside the division. That's tough. The Panthers seemed to right things last week at Minnesota. Cam Newton came alive, mainly because he had protection. I think he keeps it going here. The Panthers win a tight one.
Result: Carolina Panthers 30, St. Louis Rams 15
St. Louis
Rams

Cincinnati
Bengals
24
The Bengals are playing consecutive road games outside the division. That's always tough. But I like the Bengals here. The Lions have defensive issues, ranking 26th, and the Bengals have a lot of weapons. I also like Cincinnati's defensive front against the Lions' offensive line.
Result: Cincinnati Bengals 27, Detroit Lions 24
Detroit
Lions

San Diego
Chargers
27
The Chargers have to take a long trip after a short week, having played Monday night. That's tough. The Jaguars did some good things losing to the Broncos last week. That's progress. The Chargers have Philip Rivers, and he can light up the Jacksonville secondary. I like the Chargers here, but the Jaguars will be feisty.
Result: San Diego Chargers 24, Jacksonville Jaguars 6
Jacksonville
Jaguars

Miami
Dolphins
27
The Dolphins are coming off a bye at 3-3 and have a favorable schedule the rest of the way, starting with this one. The Bills have problems at quarterback and in the secondary. The Dolphins had two weeks to work on their line problems, and I think that will show up here. Ryan Tannehill will have a good game.
Result: Miami Dolphins 21, Buffalo Bills 23
Buffalo
Bills

New England
Patriots
27
The Patriots beat the Jets earlier this season in an ugly game. The Patriots didn't do much on offense. But I think they've figured some things out. That late-game drive last week will help get them going. Belichick will have some interesting things to throw at Geno Smith this time around. And the defense is much improved. Pats take it.
Result: New England Patriots 27, NY Jets 30
New York
Jets
17

Philadelphia
Eagles
37
This is for first place in the division, but the Cowboys come limping in. They are hurting and won't have their best pass rusher in DeMarcus Ware against an Eagles offense that is third in the league in total offense. That will put a lot of pressure on the Dallas back end. I just don't see them slowing down the Eagles offense without him. But Tony Romo will get his, too.
Result: Philadelphia Eagles 3, Dallas Cowboys 17
Dallas
Cowboys
31

Washington
Redskins
34
The Redskins have struggled against the pass, which could mean a big day for Jay Cutler and his receivers. But the Bears are broken down on defense. I look for Robert Griffin III to counter with a big day against the Chicago defense. This will be high scoring, but Redskins take it at home.
Result: Washington Redskins 45, Chicago Bears 41
Chicago
Bears
28

San Francisco
49ers
21
The 49ers got their passing game untracked some last week, which they had to do. But this might come down to their running attack against the Titans' 19th-ranked run defense. Look for a lot of ball-control from the 49ers and that will keep the game close.
Result: San Francisco 49ers 31, Tennessee Titans 17
Tennessee
Titans
20

Kansas City
Chiefs
21
The Texans will be a desperate team here. They have to find a way to turn things around. But this is a tough spot to try and do it. The Chiefs have been suffocating on defense against the pass, but the run defense is so-so. The status of Matt Schaub is key here. But I think whoever plays quarterback for the Texans will face a lot of pressure. The Chiefs get to 7-0.
Result: Kansas City Chiefs 17, Houston Texans 16
Houston
Texans

Green Bay
Packers
26
The Packers looked better on defense last week against Baltimore after their bye. The Browns have played a lot of good defense. But this is Aaron Rodgers. I know he is shorthanded as it relates to his receivers, but that won't stop him. Brandon Weeden will make two key mistakes that lead to points for the Packers.
Result: Green Bay Packers 31, Cleveland Browns 13
Cleveland
Browns

Pittsburgh
Steelers
22
The Steelers are coming off their first victory of the season last week against the Jets, while the Ravens lost at home to the Packers. The Steelers have lost twice already at home. But I think they end the streak here. Look for Ben Roethlisberger to make some of those patented escape throws for big plays.
Result: Pittsburgh Steelers 19, Baltimore Ravens 16
Baltimore
Ravens

Denver
Broncos
37
The return of Peyton Manning to Indianapolis will be the story all week. The Colts are coming off a short week, having played Monday night. They have to let Andrew Luck do more passing on early downs. It will be a must here. Denver will get theirs. Will the Colts? Yes, but they won't keep up.
Result: Denver Broncos 33, Indianapolis Colts 39
Indianapolis

New York
Giants
31
This is a game featuring two teams that need a victory in the worst way. The Giants are winless, while the Vikings have won one game. Both teams have struggled on defense in a big way. I see Eli Manning taking advantage of that and he lights up the Vikings.
Result: NY Giants 23, Minnesota Vikings 7
Minnesota
Vikings
