04/27/16WRDavante AdamsKneePROBABLEAdams (knee) has been ruled out of Saturday's game against the Cardinals, ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports.

Adams was considered unlikely to play after suffering an MCL injury last weekend, so Friday's news confirms he'll be unavailable Saturday. Although he struggled for most of this season, Adams' absence leaves the Packers' receiving corp a bit thin against Arizona's deep and talented secondary, but Jared Abbrederis and Jeff Janis are the most likely candidates to see more playing time.

04/27/16LBSam BarringtonAnklePROBABLEThe Packers placed Sam Barrington (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
04/27/16DLJosh BoydAnklePROBABLEPackers defensive tackle Josh Boyd's MRI on Monday revealed torn ankle ligaments in addition to a broken small bone, thus casting doubt over his availability for the remainder of this season, NFL.com reports.
04/27/16WRRandall CobbUpper bodyPROBABLECobb suffered a punctured lung during the Packers' divisional round loss at Arizona, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

During a spot Wednesday at Super Bowl 50's Radio Row, Cobb revealed the nature of the lung injury that knocked him out of the playoffs, relaying "I punctured my lung." Because he avoided a rib fracture in the process of landing on his back, he speculated that the fact he was miked up played a role in the injury, which left the Packers reeling at wideout in the eventual defeat. Nevertheless, with Jordy Nelson ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn ACL, Aaron Rodgers is poised to have his entire arsenal of weapons healthy at the outset of next season.

04/27/16DBDemetri GoodsonSuspensionSUSPENDGoodson has been suspended for the first four games of the 2016 regular season for violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing substances, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Goodson will be free to participate in all of the Packers' offseason and preseason preparations, but will be forced to miss the first quarter of the upcoming regular season. A depth cornerback that saw more playing time toward the end of last season, Goodson's absence will open the door for teammates to fill his role on defense and special teams.

04/27/16WRTy MontgomeryAnkleQUESTIONABLEMontgomery (ankle) continues to nurse his ankle injury and is now off crutches, Jason Wilde of ESPN.com reports.

After undergoing surgery on his ankle in December, Montgomery has shown steady progress in the hopes of returning to the field healthy this season. "Everything is moving smoothly. My timeline is their timeline. We're all working together and just making sure the best things happen for me to get healthy", Montgomery said.

04/27/16WRJordy NelsonKneePROBABLENelson (knee) participated in the first day of the Packers' offseason program Monday, and afterward said "We're right where we want to be" in his rehab program.

Nelson characteristically didn't make any proclamations on when he'll be 100 percent, but it's telling that he reported no "mental blocks" or worries about losing a step after going through Monday's workout. Following his torn ACL suffered last preseason, all indications suggest Nelson has been recovering with great progress, shedding positive light on his outlook ahead of Week 1. Nonetheless, Nelson's involvement will have to be monitored throughout the build-up to this season, and onlookers should expect the Packers to take every precaution necessary with their star wideout.

04/27/16DLMike PennelSuspensionSUSPENDPennel has been suspended four games for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

An undrafted free agent in 2014, Pennel served behind B.J. Raji and Letroy Guion last season, notching one sack among 25 tackles. The Packers have already inked Guion to a three-year deal, and Raji may leave in free agency, leaving more snaps available to Pennel once he fulfills the suspension. However, the preceding is assuming Pennel even lands a spot on the eventual 53-man roster.

04/27/16DBAntoine BetheaShoulderPROBABLEStrong safety Jaquiski Tartt is listed as the starting strong safety for the 49ers heading into Sunday against St. Louis.

With news of Antoine Bethea (pectoral) being placed on season-ending IR, the 49ers will call on their second round pick from this year's draft to start at safety. Tartt has the size and athleticism to play the position. He is more known for his big-hit ability rather than his coverage, so it would be safe to assume that he will be a modest source of tackles, rather than interceptions while he is starting.

    (Updated 10/28/2015)
04/27/16DLGlenn DorseyKneeQUESTIONABLEDorsey suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, according to NFL Network's Rand Getlin.

Assuming the diagnosis is confirmed by the team, Dorsey would presumably be headed to IR, with his looming absence representing a big blow to the 49ers' defensive line.

    (Updated 11/23/2015)
04/27/16RBShaun DraughnKneePROBABLEDraughn has signed a one-year deal to remain with the 49ers, ESPN.com reports.

Draughn, who missed the final two games of the 2015 season with a knee injury, is thus slated to remain part of the 49ers' backfield in 2016, serving as a complement/depth option behind presumed top back Carlos Hyde.

    (Updated 03/02/2016)
04/27/16RBCarlos HydeFootPROBABLEHyde indicated Wednesday that his surgically-repaired left foot has recovered to the point that he feels he would be ready to play in a game at this time if the 49ers had one, the San Jose Mercury-News reports. "My foot's feeling great. I'm ready to go." Hyde relayed Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the running back -- who missed the 49ers' final nine games last season with a stress fracture in his foot -- suggested that he shouldn't have much of an issue transitioning to new coach Chip Kelly's offense. "I'm already familiar with this type of offense," Hyde said. "I played it (at Ohio State), the up-tempo, no-huddle offense. I'm excited to be in it." Now that Hyde's foot (in his words) has "healed up just fine," the running back will look to approach the coming season in good health/fitness, and with that in mind, he has slimmed down to 225 pounds, which the report suggests is seven pounds lighter than he was last season. Assuming continued health, Hyde remains the 49ers' clear-cut top back, which leaves Shaun Draughn, DuJuan Harris, Mike Davis, Kendall Gaskins and Jarryd Hayne to jostle for slotting behind him in the team's 2016 backfield.

04/27/16QBColin KaepernickLeft shoulderPROBABLEGM Trent Baalke left open the possibility that Kaepernick (shoulder/knee/thumb) could be traded this week, ESPN.com reports.

"I wouldn't say we are out there looking for it, but I wouldn't rule it out," Baalke noted, as Thursday's NFL draft approaches. While we wouldn't expect all of the NFL teams with fluid QB situations to engage in a flurry of trades this week, the draft does present a window which favors such movement. With that in mind, another QB who could potentially be on the move is Philadelphia's Sam Bradford. In the meantime, Kaepernick -- who is recovering from shoulder, thumb and knee surgeries this offseason -- is attending the 49ers' voluntary minicamp this week, but he still isn't throwing at this stage.

    (Updated 04/27/2016)
04/27/16LBMichael WilhoiteAnklePROBABLEWilhoite (ankle) was placed on IR on Saturday.

With Wilhoite ruled out for the season finale, the 49ers opted to clear up a roster spot for Mike Davis (hand). Wilhoite had a career year, posting 85 tackles in just 12 games, but the 49ers would probably rather see Gerald Hodges starting in 2016.

    (Updated 01/02/2016)
04/27/16DLIan WilliamsAnkleQUESTIONABLEWilliams' contract with the 49ers has been reworked into a one-year deal worth up to $6 million due to the uncertainty surrounding his availability for the beginning of the upcoming season, CSN Bay Area reports.

Williams initially agreed to a reported five-year, $27.5 million contract with the 49ers following a career year last season, but after he couldn't pass a team physical due to multiple offseason ankle surgeries, Williams contract was reworked into a one-year deal. A player that's had numerous procedures to his left leg during his pro career, Williams' status for the start of the 2016 is in question following his latest operations, leaving the 49ers in need of some depth up front in case he's unavailable.
