Maualuga was placed on the active/no-football injury list.
The injury itself is undisclosed, but Maualuga is not expected to miss much time because of it. The starting middle linebacker didn't practice during the spring but can return to the field as soon as he is medically cleared. Reports say he could return to practice as soon as Friday.
Burfict's three-game suspension was upheld by appeals officer Derrick Brooks, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports.
As expected, Burfict will miss the first three games of the 2016 season due to repeated on-field incidents, culminating with his cheap shot on Antonio Brown in a playoff loss to the Steelers. He's an excellent player, but his value to the Bengals has been dampened by a combination of injuries and careless penalties. He has 14 unnecessary roughness flags and 401 tackles in 47 games through four seasons.
Nkemdiche is tending to an ankle sprain and is day-to-day, according to head coach Bruce Arians.
Earlier this week, Nkemdiche sustained the injury during the Cardinals' QB School, forcing him to the sideline for the early sessions of training camp. The 2016 first-round pick doesn't have a clear-cut timetable for a return, but he's expected to bolster the defensive line ranks once he's healthy enough to partake in drills.
