05/18/16WRTy MontgomeryAnkleQUESTIONABLEMontgomery (ankle) continues to nurse his ankle injury and is now off crutches, Jason Wilde of ESPN.com reports.

After undergoing surgery on his ankle in December, Montgomery has shown steady progress in the hopes of returning to the field healthy this season. "Everything is moving smoothly. My timeline is their timeline. We're all working together and just making sure the best things happen for me to get healthy", Montgomery said.

05/18/16WRJordy NelsonKneePROBABLENelson (knee) remains limited at OTAs, according to Packers reporter Jason Wilde.

Nelson is doing individual work - running routes and catching passes - though presumably not at full speed. Having suffered his torn ACL last preseason, he may be ready for full participation at some point in camp. First, he'll need to prove that he can make sharp cuts while running at full speed. Nelson remains on track for Week 1.

04/27/16DBDemetri GoodsonSuspensionSUSPENDGoodson has been suspended for the first four games of the 2016 regular season for violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing substances, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Goodson will be free to participate in all of the Packers' offseason and preseason preparations, but will be forced to miss the first quarter of the upcoming regular season. A depth cornerback that saw more playing time toward the end of last season, Goodson's absence will open the door for teammates to fill his role on defense and special teams.

04/27/16DLMike PennelSuspensionSUSPENDPennel has been suspended four games for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

An undrafted free agent in 2014, Pennel served behind B.J. Raji and Letroy Guion last season, notching one sack among 25 tackles. The Packers have already inked Guion to a three-year deal, and Raji may leave in free agency, leaving more snaps available to Pennel once he fulfills the suspension. However, the preceding is assuming Pennel even lands a spot on the eventual 53-man roster.

05/17/16RBMelvin GordonKneePROBABLEGordon (knee) is participating in individual drills at the start of OTAs, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Ahead of schedule in his recovery from January microfracture surgery, Gordon may be limited during OTAs, but he hopes to be a full participant at June minicamp. He's a clear favorite to handle most of the early-down workload, but both Danny Woodhead and Branden Oliver represent serious competition for snaps and touches. The San Diego offense operated best last season when it abandoned the run and used Woodhead over Gordon. This may have partially been due to questionable running by the rookie, but a slew of injuries on the offensive line was likely the bigger factor. Improved health up front would at least give Gordon the opportunity to break out, though he still needs to prove that he brings more than straight-line speed to the table.

05/17/16WRSteve JohnsonGroinPROBABLEAfter missing the final four games of the regular season, Johnson finished 2015 with 45 catches for 497 yards and three touchdowns in ten games.

Johnson missed a total of six games because a hamstring injury caused him to miss Weeks 5 and 6 in addition to missing the last four games of the year due to a groin injury. When he was healthy, he was a productive slot receiver who would typically make four or five catches per game on a good passing team. Johnson should be back for more of the same in 2016.

04/27/16DBBrandon FlowersKneePROBABLEFlowers (knee) is healthy after ending the season on IR, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Flowers failed to record a single interception last season, the first time he hasn't recorded at least one takeaway in his six-year career. Couple that with the fact that he registered just 33 tackles (29 solo), and it's fair to say Flowers is coming off his worst season as a pro. However, following an offseason in which the 30-year-old corner reportedly trimmed 10-12 pounds off his frame and appears completely healthy following a nagging knee injury that caused him to miss the final four games of the regular season, Flowers looks to be on the upswing heading into the new year. Even with Casey Hayward joining the secondary via free agency, Flowers is still expected to start opposite Jason Verrett and could be a good candidate to rebound should he stay healthy.

04/27/16DLCorey LiugetFootPROBABLELiuget is feeling "much better" after he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in December, Micahel Gehlken of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Liuget had tallied 34 tackles (28 solo) and three sacks before his Week 13 injury against the Broncos. The 26-year-old, who signed a five-year extension prior to last year's training camp, reportedly weighed between 313-315 pounds throughout the 2015 season, but is expecting to cut his weight down to 295 by the season opener. With the Chargers selecting Joey Bosa with the third overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Liuget and Bosa could form an impressive duo on the defensive line capable of wreaking havoc on opposing offenses should both players stay healthy.

04/27/16DBJason VerrettHamstringPROBABLEVerrett (hamstring) has begun working out with fellow Chargers teammates, ESPN's Eric D. Williams reports.

Verrett, who missed the Chargers final game of the regular season due to a hamstring injury, was spotted working out with a few members of the secondary at a training facility in California. San Diego's leader in interceptions last year, Verrett is expected to take over more of a leadership role on defense with veteran captain Eric Weddle widely expected to sign with another team during the offseason.
