Chiefs wideout Dwayne Bowe is dealing with a shoulder sprain, coach Andy Reid told reporters on Monday, per the team's official website. Bowe had six catches for 57 yards in a 20-12 defeat to Pittsburgh in Week 16. Through 14 games, Bowe has 57 catches for 724 yards and no touchdowns.
Reid remains optimistic Bowe will play Week 17 at home against the Chargers. If Bowe is unable to play, Jason Avant could see an increase in snaps.
"Knowing Dwayne, he doesn't miss much, but I think he'll be OK," Reid said.
Lions coach Jim Caldwell told reporters defensive tackle Nick Fairley is "making good progress" in his recovering from knee injury, per the team's official website. Fairley is no longer in crutches and is not a candidate to land on injured reserve "at this precise moment."
