Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers told reporters he "definitely" feels "a lot better" this week than last week from physical standpoint, per U-T San Diego. Rivers is nursing a bulging disk in his lower back after completing 33 of his 54 pass attempts for 356 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions in his team's 38-35 overtime win over the 49ers in Week 16.
Chargers running back Ryan Mathews (ankle) was unable to practice again Wednesday as the team prepared for Sunday's game at Kansas City. Mathews has missed two straight games and nine overall this year.
Chargers cornerback Shareece Wright suffered a concussion in Saturday's game against the 49ers and will not return, the team announced. Wright suffered the injury late in the first half and was ruled out early in the fourth quarter.
