Saints free-agent acquisition Jairus Byrd underwent back surgery last week and is not participating in OTAs, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Coach Sean Payton said he expects Byrd, a ball-hawking safety, to be ready for training camp.

After missing his entire rookie year with a torn ACL, Broncos defensive end Quanterus Smith has looked great during the offseason minicamps. Per the official team website, Smith has shown off "warp speed" on his edge rushes but has also shown burst on his inside moves and has improved how he uses his hands.
Broncos cornerback Chris Harris, who's coming back from ACL surgery, told ESPN he expects to be cleared for full participation by the midway point of the preseason. Harris said the exact timetable hinges on his upcoming visit to his surgeon, Dr. James Andrews.
