08/15/16QBCarson WentzRibQUESTIONABLEWentz (ribs) is on track to return for Thursday's preseason finale against the Jets, Dave Spadaro of the Eagles' official site reports.

Although he isn't playing in Saturday's exhibition, Wentz threw passes on the field before the game, hinting at progress since earlier this week when he was held out of practice. If he does indeed suit up, Wentz could get an extended look in Thursday's game, as starter Sam Bradford will presumably be rested.

08/09/16WRJordan MatthewsKneePROBABLEMatthews (knee) will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Colts, Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Matthews hasn't practiced since suffering a bone bruise Aug. 5, but he did increase his activity level the past week, and he promised he'll be ready for Week 1. Once healthy, Matthews will be the Eagles' clear-cut top wideout, with Nelson Agholor, Rueben Randle, Dorial Green-Beckham and Josh Huff all jostling for position behind him. With Mathews sidelined, Huff is expected to join Agholor in Saturday's starting lineup.

08/09/16RBWendell SmallwoodQuadPROBABLESmallwood left Saturday's preseason contest at Indianapolis in order to be evaluated for a head injury.

Smallwood has spent the majority of his first preseason tending to a quadriceps injury but was cleared to take the field Saturday. The rookie was faring well prior to his departure, recording two carries for 11 yards, one reception for five yards, and one kick return for 30 yards. If he's indeed diagnosed with a concussion, Smallwood's chances of supplanting fellow running back Kenjon Barner from the third spot on the depth chart would be hindered, to say the least.

08/27/16RBDaniel LascoHeadQUESTIONABLELasco is currently in the league's concussion protocol following Friday's preseason game against the Steelers, Josh Katzenstein of The Times-Picayune reports.

Lasco was given just one rush attempt during Friday's third preseason game, accounting for four yards, and claimed to be fine after sustaining the head injury in the fourth quarter on a receiving play. If the injury lingers, Lasco could be in danger of not making the 53-man roster.

08/15/16LBStephone AnthonyLegQUESTIONABLEAnthony (leg) returned to practice on Monday, NOLA.com reports.

Anthony was carted off the field with an unspecified leg injury during the Saints' preseason opener against New England. However, New Orleans evidently dodged a bullet as he logged a full practice Monday and appeared to be moving without limitations throughout team drills. Now proven healthy, he'll resume his entrance into the regular season as Rotowire's 26th-ranked IDP prospect.

08/15/16DLSheldon RankinsLegOUTRankins, who was carted off during Monday's practice, will have surgery to repair a fractured fibula and is expected to miss six weeks, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Rankins' injury is a tough blow to the Saints' defense, which aded him with the 12th overall pick in this year's draft to beef up its front line. Furthermore, the Louisville product was impressive to this point in camp, even intercepting Tom Brady during joint practices with the Patriots last week. With Rankins now sidelined going into the regular season, Nick Fairley, John Jenkins and fellow rookie David Onyemata should see more reps at defensive tackle.

07/31/16WRVincent BrownUndisclosedNFIThe Saints released Brown (calf) with an injury settlement Thursday, removing him from injured reserve, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Brown joined the Saints in May, adding a veteran presence to a receiving corps lacking in experience. However, he failed his pre-training camp physical due to a strained calf, which will bring his brief tenure in New Orleans to a close. The severity of the injury will likely determine when he receives a chance with another organization.
