Ravens running back Ray Rice issued a contrite statement after receiving his two-game suspension from the league. Rice struck his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, unconscious in an Atlantic City casino in February.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced Thursday that cornerback Aaron Ross would be lost for the season after tearing his Achilles during conditioning drills, FOX Sports reported. Ross was planning to push for a starting job after struggling with a back injury and ultimately missing a chunk of last season.
Ravens running back Bernard Pierce, who had offseason rotator cuff surgery, said he's been fully cleared by doctors, reports the Baltimore Sun. Pierce also said he's lost weight and now weighs 223 pounds.
Patriots second-year receivers Josh Boyce and Kenbrell Thompkins are on the roster bubble heading into training camp, with only one spot available, reports the team's website. Thompkins put up far better numbers as a rookie -- 32 catches, 466 yards, 4 TDs -- but he has inconsistent hands and Boyce is more explosive.
Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo, who's coming back from a torn pectoral muscle, suggested he'll return for training camp in July, reports the Boston Herald. He's been working out at Gillette Stadium for a while.
