Tennessee at Houston

  • 1462063500
First round gambles on Jared Goff (Los Angeles), Robert Nkemdiche (Arizona) and Germain Ifedi (Seattle) could shake up the pecking order in the contentious NFC West.
    1462062900
Adding teeth to the defense in Chicago and a playmakers at receiver in Minnesota make the NFC North arguably the biggest winners in the 2016 NFL Draft.
    1462062783
It's the offseason, but Bill Belichick's press conferences are already in midseason form.
    1462062238
Baby Gronk is headed for Buffalo.
    1462061700
The splashy selections of Zeke Elliott and Jaylon Smith earn the Cowboys a solid "B" but that isn't the highest grade in the NFC East.

04/27/16WRJustin HunterAnklePROBABLEHunter (ankle) will be placed on the Titans' injured reserve list Monday, The Tennessean reports.

Hunter fractured his right ankle during Sunday's loss to the Panthers, requiring him to have season-ending surgery Monday. In nine games played this season, the third-year wideout managed 22 catches (on 31 targets) for 264 yards and one touchdown. With Hunter out, rookie Dorial Green-Beckham could be more prominently featured in the Titans' offense going forward.

04/27/16RBDexter McClusterWristPROBABLEMcCluster is out for the year with a broken wrist.

McCluster finishes the season with 247 rushing yards and a touchdown on 55 carries in 11 games. He also added 260 receiving yards and a touchdown on 31 catches. In his absence down the stretch, look for Bishop Sankey (inactive in Week 14) to re-join the Titans' backfield mix.

04/27/16QBZach MettenbergerForearmPROBABLETitans general manager Jon Robinson would like to keep Mettenberger in Tennessee this coming season despite the offseason acquisition of veteran free agent Matt Cassel, the Nashville Post reports.

Quarterback depth isn't easy to come by in the NFL, and Robinson would prefer to keep his options open behind starter Marcus Mariota rather than deal Mettenberger to a quarterback-needy destination. Mettenberger saw meaningful action in six games last season, but the 24-year-old will have to beat out Cassel then hope for an injury to Mariota in order to have a realistic chance of contributing for the Titans in 2016.

04/27/16LBDerrick MorganShoulderPROBABLEMorgan (shoulder) may not be ready when the Titans begin OTA's in May, John Glennon of The Tennessean reports. "Morgan may be a question mark for OTAs. He may be limited. We'll be smart with him," said coach Mike Mularkey on Wednesday.

Morgan underwent season-ending surgery in December after he suffered a torn labrum in October. He will continue to rehab his shoulder in the meantime and it will become increasingly clear as the offseason progresses whether or not he'll be able to participate in OTAs in May.

04/27/16WRAndrew TurzilliSuspensionSUSPENDTurzilli has been suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

Turzilli remains eligible to participate in all of the Titans' offseason and preseason activities, but will be sidelined for the first quarter of the coming campaign. As a depth wide receiver, Turzilli's suspension surely doesn't help his chances of making Tennessee's roster this term.

04/27/16LBJadeveon ClowneyFootPROBABLEClowney won't require offseason foot surgery, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

In Week 16, Clowney sustained a foot injury that claimed his availability in the season finale and the wild-card loss to the Chiefs. Prior to that unfortunate development, he realized some of his vast potential as a pass rusher, racking up 4.5 sacks among 40 tackles (27 solo) and a forced fumble. If he can ever avoid the injury bug, he would augment an already imposing pass-rushing duo of J.J. Watt (groin) and Whitney Mercilus.

04/27/16RBArian FosterAchillesQUESTIONABLEFoster (Achilles) visited the Dolphins on Tuesday but left without a contract offer, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports. Afterward, Miami executive Mike Tannenbaum told Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald that Foster is "a little bit away" from being healthy.

Foster is five months removed from tearing the Achilles in his right foot, so it's no surprise that he remains in the midst of rehabilitation. Coming off a three-year span in which he appeared in 25 of a possible 48 games, an incentive-laden deal is likely in the 29-year-old's future, but a team such as the Dolphins could use his veteran presence to groom 2015 fifth-round pick Jay Ajayi with Lamar Miller poised to serve as Foster's replacement in Houston. While other organizations are sure to inquire about Foster, his status for the 2016 campaign remains in limbo.

04/27/16DBCharles JamesFootPROBABLEJames was placed on injured reserve after suffering a foot injury in Sunday's win over the Titans.

James has been playing with a foot injury the past few weeks and it finally caught up with him.

04/27/16QBTom SavageShoulderPROBABLEThe Texans intend to place quarterback Tom Savage on injured reserve, which will end his 2015 season, a source told the NFL Network. Savage suffered a shoulder injury during a recent preseason game.
04/27/16DLJ.J. WattGroinPROBABLEWatt is nearly recovered from offseason groin surgery, Peter King of Sports Illustrated reports. "I am very, very close to being back to 100 percent," he said recently.

At the conclusion of the 2015 campaign, Watt was apparently sporting five partially or full torn core muscles, yet the ailments didn't stop him from nabbing his third NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in a four-year span. In particular, he notched 17.5 sacks among 76 tackles last season, to which he added three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in a full 16-game slate.
