09/20/16DLIan WilliamsUndisclosedOUTWilliams was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

This move was made to make room on the roster for offensive lineman Anthony Davis who was reinstated by the league from retirement Saturday. It remains to be seen when Williams will play again.

09/05/16WRDeAndre SmelterHamstringQUESTIONABLESmelter (hamstring) was added to the 49ers' practice squad, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports.

Smelter was cut by the 49ers prior to the season after suffering a hamstring injury during training camp. Prior to the injury, the 2015 fourth-round pick had light breakout potential due to his size and athleticism. It is unclear if and when the 49ers will give Smelter a chance on the 53-man roster, or even if his hamstring injury has fully healed. While he is definitely not a player worth picking up right now, there is still potential for a late-season appearance where the team tries to get a better look at their former top receiving prospect on a team devoid of reliable options at that position.

10/20/16WRJared AbbrederisQUADRICEPSOUTAbbrederis (thigh) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bears, reports.

Abbrederis did not participate in practice Wednesday after being limited Tuesday, ultimately leading to his inability to play Thursday. Ty Montgomery figures to serve as the Packers' primary kick returner, while Abbrederis' next opportunity to return will come Week 8 against the Falcons.

10/20/16WRDavante AdamsCONCUSSIONQUESTIONABLEAdams (concussion) is listed as questionable for Thursday's contest versus the Bears, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Considering he turned in one limited practice this week, Adams likely hasn't completed every step of the protocol for head injuries. On the other hand, the Packers have deemed him questionable, so he may in fact be a game-time call. An absence would likely place Ty Montgomery and rookie Trevor Davis more in Aaron Rodgers' crosshairs.

10/20/16SChris BanjoHAMSTRINGOUTBanjo (hamstring) has been ruled out for Thursday's contest against the Bears, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.

Banjo injured the hamstring Week 5 and was also sidelined for Week 6's loss to the Cowboys. His next opportunity to return will be Week 8 versus the Falcons, while Morgan Burnett and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix will get the start at safety on Thursday per usual.

10/20/16TEJared CookANKLEOUTCook has shed the walking boot he had been wearing after injuring his ankle in Week 3, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.

Cook still has a few hurdles to cross before being ready to play again, but he has resumed working out and said he is "not far off" from completing his recovery from the ankle injury he is dealing with. Richard Rodgers will continue handling the bulk of the tight end duties for the Packers until Cook returns.

10/20/16CBDamarious RandallGROINOUTRandall (groin) has been ruled out for Thursday's matchup against the Bears, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.

As expected given his inability to practice throughout the week due to a groin injury, Randall won't be on the field Week 7. Ladarius Gunter and Demetri Goodson will be the starting cornerbacks with Quinten Rollins (groin) also sidelined.

10/20/16CBQuinten RollinsGROINOUTRollins (groin) won't play Thursday against the Bears, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.

There wasn't much optimism throughout the week that Rollins would be able to play, so the news of his absence from the lineup comes as no surprise. Damarious Randall has also been ruled out, so the Packers will start Ladarius Gunter and Demetri Goodson at cornerback.

10/20/16RBJames StarksKNEEOUTStarks is expected to miss about four weeks following his knee surgery Sunday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.

Starks has been subject of conflicting reports since news of his surgery to repair a torn meniscus surfaced Sunday. Prior to Mike McCarthy vaguely saying Monday he anticipates a "quick" recovery from Starks, the veteran tailback was reportedly slated to miss "several" weeks. Given the latests news, it appears the latter outlook is closest to the mark and Stark will be sidelined for about a month, creating a significant absence in the Packers' offense. With starter Eddie Lacy (ankle) noticeably gimpy and no other running back on the current roster healthy, Green Bay may be forced to promote Don Jackson from the practice squad and use wideouts Ty Montgomery and Randall Cobb more out of the backfield.
