With Ayers out for a second straight week, George Selvie will likely slide over to left defensive end again, allowing Kerry Wynn to join the starting lineup as the right defensive end. Even against a run-heavy Bills team, the Giants defense will sorely miss its most effective pass-rusher.
Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz (calf) won't play Sunday against the 49ers, but he is aiming to return Week 6 against the Eagles, the New York Daily News reports.
Cruz is slated for an examination with team doctors Monday, which is 10 days removed from receiving a PRP injection in his left calf. After he meets with the doctors, he'll adjust his timetable for a return to running, according to The Record.
With a Monday night contest in Week 6, Cruz will have an extra day to prove the health of the calf. However, next Thursday's practice will ultimately set the groundwork for the potential to make his season debut.
George Selvie will be reunited with former University of South Florida teammate Jason Pierre-Paul in New York. The defensive lineman signed a one-year, $1.4 million deal with the Giants that includes a $200,000 signing bonus, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he thinks wide receiver Dez Bryant (foot) has a chance to return for Week 7 against the Giants, The Dallas Morning News reports.
Week 7 represents an absolute best-case scenario, as the Cowboys have acknowledged all along Bryant will at least be out through the Week 6 bye. With his recovery going well, Bryant could be back for Week 7 or Week 8, but it's also quite possible he'll need a few weeks beyond that to heal.
Cowboys wide receiver Brice Butler (hamstring) is expected to miss Sunday's game against the Patriots, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Butler strained a hamstring on his first catch of the season, a 67-yard grab in New Orleans on Sunday night. With the first practice of the week imminent Wednesday, head coach Jason Garrett will be afforded his first chance to clarify Butler's status. If he's deemed inactive this Sunday, Butler's next opportunity to play arrives on Oct. 25 against the Giants after the Cowboys' Week 6 bye.
Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee (concussion) was limited in Thursday's practice, Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Lee was removed in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Saints due to a concussion, but his presence on the field Thursday indicates that he may soon receive clearance from the league's protocol for head injuries. Once he's cleared, he'll resume his role as the Cowboys' starting weak-side linebacker, from which he's accrued a team-high 36 tackles this season.
