11/04/15RBTrey WattsSuspensionSUSPENDWatts was signed by the Rams on Friday, ESPN's Nick Wagoner reports.

Watts was promoted from the practice squad, suggesting that Tre Mason (ankle) is unlikely to play. Even if he's active, Watts won't necessarily get any touches.

08/29/16RBShaun DraughnLegPROBABLEDraughn (ribs/back) wore a blue jersey at Sunday's practice to signal that he's exempt from being hit, The Sacramento Bee reports.

Draughn hasn't played in either of the 49ers' past two preseason games due to a ribs injury he suffered during a practice scrimmage with the Broncos. While that condition requires the protection associated with a blue practice jersey, starting running back Carlos Hyde's concussion suffered Friday against Green Bay makes protecting Draughn's health even more important. At the moment, he projects as the Niners' No. 2 running back, so if Hyde is unavailable, he represents the team's next option at the position, where the alternatives don't appear too attractive. It's also worth noting that Draughn was involved with returning punts during Sunday's session.

08/29/16WRDeAndre SmelterHamstringPROBABLESmelter (hamstring) was seen in full pads at Monday's practice, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports.

Smelter -- who has missed all three preseason games with a hamstring injury -- returned to practice and could make an appearance in the 49ers' final preseason game against the Chargers on Thursday. The 2015 fourth-round pick was recovering from a torn ACL and had a great opportunity to carve out a significant role during training camp, but a hamstring injury derailed that opportunity. It isn't inconceivable for Smelter to have a strong showing in Thursday's preseason finale and rocket up the depth chart given how depleted the 49ers' receiving corps is. A more likely scenario would be Smelter making the team as a backup and earning playing time later in the season as he gets his feet wet with his first NFL action.

08/27/16LBNaVorro BowmanRestPROBABLEBowman is in street clothes on the sideline for Friday's matchup with the Packers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN reports.

Bowman was not on the inactive list for this contest, but it does not appear as though he will participate. There has been no injury reported, so the team is likely resting their veteran linebacker in order to ensure his health heading into Week 1.

08/27/16DLQuinton DialKneeQUESTIONABLEDial injured his knee during Friday's preseason loss to the Packers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

The 49ers are awaiting word on an MRI of Dial's knee, after which a timetable for a return can be charted. In 15 games last season, the defensive tackle notched 59 tackles (32 solo) and 2.5 sacks.

08/27/16WRBruce EllingtonHamstringQUESTIONABLEEllington (ankle) won't play in Saturday's preseason game at Denver, the 49ers' official site reports.

With an ankle sprain in tow, Ellington will be an observer rather than participant in San Francisco's second exhibition outing. His absence should give the likes of Jerome Simpson and DeAndrew White additional targets to work with Saturday.

08/27/16RBCarlos HydeConcussionQUESTIONABLEHyde suffered a concussion in the first half of Saturday's preseason loss to Green Bay, ESPN reports.

Hyde had four carries for 30 yards, including a 27-yard run, before departing. Hyde looks fully healthy after left foot surgery that he underwent prior to the end of the 2015 season. However, the concussion could put his status for the start of the regular season in question.

08/26/16DLTony Jerod-EddieChestPROBABLEJerod-Eddie exited Saturday's preseason game with an apparent chest injury, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Jerod-Eddie went down in the first quarter and did not return to the game. With both Arik Armstead (shoulder) and DeForest Buckner (leg) sitting out, he was getting reps with the 49ers' top defensive unit. Jerod-Eddie is currently competing for a backup defensive end job.

08/23/16WRBryce TreggsKneeQUESTIONABLETreggs (knee) is inactive for Friday's matchup with the Packers.

Treggs is currently considered week-to-week due to a sprained MCL, thus rendering this inactive unsurprising. He is currently competing to make the team's final roster.

08/21/16LBNick BelloreKneeQUESTIONABLEBellore (knee) was diagnosed with a knee sprain Monday, Matt Maiocco of csnbayarea.com reports.

On the bright side, Bellore's injury does not appear serious enough to require surgery. On the other hand, the 49ers have no timetable for his return as of right now. Bellore currently presides as one of San Francisco's top reserve linebackers.

08/21/16DLDeForest BucknerUndisclosedPROBABLEBuckner was held out of the 49ers second preseason game, Saturday against the Broncos, due to a soft tissue issue on his lower body, Nick Wagoner of ESPN NFL Nation reports.

Buckner's absence was announced late on Saturday, and came as a surprise as he hadn't missed practice with the issue. The team didn't go beyond saying that the injury was tissue in his lower body, making it hard to gauge the severity of the injury and set a timetable for the rookie defensive end. It's unclear at this time if he'll be able to practice right away or if he'll be out for a longer stretch. Look for Demetrius Cherry to see some extra reps as long as Buckner is out.

    (Updated 08/21/2016)
08/11/16DLArik ArmsteadShoulderPROBABLEArmstead (shoulder) returned to practice this week after missing the team's first two preseason games, Matt Maiocco reports.

After a somewhat disappointing rookie campaign one year ago, the 49ers remain confident that Armstead is headed in the right direction. The 21-year-old has shown signs of growth in both the maturity and production departments, and projects to help anchor San Francisco's defensive line in 2016. His return to the practice field Wednesday suggests that he will be ready to lead the charge in Week 1.

07/30/16DLIan WilliamsNot Injury RelatedOUTWilliams was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

This move was made to make room on the roster for offensive lineman Anthony Davis who was reinstated by the league from retirement Saturday. It remains to be seen when Williams will play again.

07/29/16LBAaron LynchSuspensionSUSPENDLynch has been suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Lynch slid to the fifth round of the 2014 Draft amid character concerns, but developed into of the league's best young outside linebackers by totaling 12.5 sacks over his first two seasons. Nonetheless, Lynch has now incurred his first NFL off-field slip-up, and will miss the first quarter of the regular season as a consequence. With Lynch suspended until San Francisco's Week 5 game against the Cardinals, Eli Harold and Corey Lemonier are candidates to start opposite Ahmad Brooks in the meantime.

05/16/16DBWill RedmondKneeQUESTIONABLEThe 49ers selected Redmond (knee) in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 68th overall.

Redmond likely would have been a second-round pick and could have even pushed for the first round if he hadn't torn his ACL during the 2015 season. This therefore looks like a potential bargain for a 49ers team that lacks proven options at corner.

    (Updated 04/29/2016)
02/17/16DLGlenn DorseyKneeQUESTIONABLEDorsey (knee) passed his conditioning test Saturday, CSN Bay Area reports.

Dorsey tore his ACL last season and has been making good progress in his recovery this offseason. He will be slowly worked back into the mix during training camp. Dorsey will have competition for a role at defensive end with DeForest Buckner and Arik Armstead on the depth chart, but he could find playing time at the nose tackle position with Ian Williams already ruled out for the season.
