Filling in for starter Chad Pennington, Fiedler led the Jets on a 16-play, 98-yard scoring drive that lasted more than 9 minutes in the New York Jets' 10-3 preseason victory over the Detroit Lions on Friday night.
"It was anything but typical," Fiedler said. "Any time you're out there for 16 plays, that's not very typical in the NFL."
Fiedler even got to show off his running skills during the drive, scrambling for a 9-yard gain and capping it with a 1-yard touchdown run.
"It wasn't too far for the touchdown," Fiedler said with a smile.
Fiedler, who played with Miami the last five seasons, completed 7 of 9 passes for 69 yards -- but had an interception on his second throw -- in two series leading new coordinator Mike Heimerdinger's offense.
"I think Mike did a great job of getting the guys the ball," coach Herman Edwards said.
Detroit's Joey Harrington also had an outstanding night while running new offensive coordinator Ted Tollner's system, going 9-for-9 for 100 yards in two series.
"I don't think there was a throw I really disliked," Harrington said.

Fiedler's second pass of the game was intercepted by James Davis at the Lions 38 after it was tipped at the line of scrimmage. But Fiedler rebounded on the next series, leading the big drive that lasted 9:07.
"I think there was a comfort level not only by me, but the whole offense," Fiedler said. "We're starting to jel, starting to pick up the new system a little bit more and starting to refine all the little things."
On third-and-8 from Detroit's 26 with 1:53 left in the first quarter, Fiedler took a snap out of the shotgun -- one of Heimerdinger's additions to the offense -- and ran around the right end and out of bounds for a 9-yard gain. Derrick Blaylock rushed for 6 yards and B.J. Askew had a 10-yard reception to put the ball at the 1 as the quarter ended.
After Blaylock was stopped for no gain, Fiedler ran it in from the 1 and highly touted rookie Mike Nugent kicked his first NFL extra point to give New York a 7-0 lead at 14:18.
"You want to be able to know you can put those kinds of drives together, even in the first preseason game," running back Curtis Martin said.
Fiedler was 6-of-7 for 50 yards on the drive, before giving way to third-stringer Brooks Bollinger. Pennington didn't play because Edwards wants to be cautious with the quarterback who's returning from surgery on his right rotator cuff.
The Lions followed with a long drive of their own -- 13 plays for 74 yards in 8:26 -- but had to settle for a 22-yard field goal by Jason Hanson with 9:08 left in the half.
After a 10-yard catch by Casey FitzSimmons put the ball on the 5, the Lions ran three times and gained just a yard.
"I thought we threw the ball efficiently, and Joey was very efficient," Mariucci said. "We would have liked to have scored more points. We got into the red zone a number of times, but came up short.
Nugent made it 10-3 on his first NFL field goal, a 40-yarder with 2:18 left in the game.
The Lions had a chance to win it, driving the ball down to the 7 with 3
seconds left, but
The rookie safety also intercepted a pass from Lions backup Jeff Garcia to end a drive in the second quarter.
Martin, the league's reigning rushing champion, had four carries for 20
yards in two series for the Jets. Blaylock and rookie
Starting running back Kevin Jones played only the opening series for the Lions, gaining 6 yards on three carries. Pinner led Detroit with 19 yards on seven carries.
Notes: Lions fullback Cory Schlesinger broke a bone in his leg in the first quarter and will be sidelined six to eight weeks. "That's a tough one on us, but he'll be back early in the season," Mariucci said. ... Jets linebacker Darrell McClover broke his left ankle early in the game, and Edwards was uncertain how long he'll be out. ... Newly signed cornerback Ty Law didn't play for New York after joining the team Monday. ... After only three penalties were called in the first half, the Lions finished with 11 for 86 yards and the Jets were penalized nine times for 65 yards.
