2014 NFL Draft: Broncos get B+ for taking Bradley Roby at No. 31
Despite his arrest a few weeks ago, the Broncos have taken cornerback Bradley Roby with the No. 31 pick.
NEW YORK -- Cornerback Bradley Roby, despite his arrest a few weeks ago, was drafted with the No. 31 overall pick by the Broncos on Thursday.
Roby, we imagine, now can breathe a sigh of relief, even if he was the ninth defensive back to come off the board.
CBSSports.com senior writer Pete Prisco liked the pick giving it a B+ and saying:
"Great pick. I thought he was one of the top two cornerbacks in the draft. And he fills an immediate need."
The last thing a potential first-round draft pick should be doing in the weeks leading up to the draft is engaging in an activity that would make a police officer frown. Late last month, however, Roby was arrested and charged with DWI, and he quickly pleaded guilty to a reduced charge, because, in the words of his agent, they wanted "to bring closure and finality to this situation ahead of [the] NFL draft."
Roby wasn't considered one of the best cornerback prospects of the draft, and that theory came true when Justin Gilbert, Kyle Fuller, Jason Verrett and Darqueze Dennard came off the board before Roby in the first round. But clearly, this was a deep draft for the cornerback position, and now that Roby also has been drafted in the first 32, he can get to work attempting to improve a secondary, which now includes Aqib Talib, that still could use some help.
