2014 NFL Draft: Cowboys get A for picking Demarcus Lawrence No. 34th
The Cowboys moved up 13 spots in the second round to grab former Boise State defensive end Demarcus Lawrence with the second pick in the second round of the NFL Draft.
Jadeveon Clowney isn't the only defensive end from South Carolina who was taken with a top-35 pick in the NFL Draft, you can add Demarcus Lawrence to that list too.
Like Clowney, Lawrence also went to high school in South Carolina.
To get Lawrence, the Cowboys sent their third round pick (78th overall) to Washginton. The Redskins will also get Dallas' second round pick at No. 47.
CBSSports.com senior writer Pete Prisco loves the move made by Jerry Jones' team.
Great move by the Cowboys. I had a first-round grade on this kid Lawrence. They need pass-rush help. GRADE: A http://t.co/KPxAyHqyNs— Pete Prisco (@PriscoCBS) May 9, 2014
Jerry Jones loves it too.
The Cowboys are getting a physical player who recorded 10.5 sacks in 2013, the fifth-highest single-season total in Boise State history. Lawrence also tallied 20.5 tackles-for-loss, ranking fourth in the nation. And he likely wouldn't have been around by the time the Cowboys were next on the clock.
Lawrence wasn't going to be on the board at No. 47, so I can't blame DAL for trading up. He is a 1st round talent IMO. New starting RE— Dane Brugler (@dpbrugler) May 9, 2014
Right now, the knock on Lawrence, according to NFLDraftScout.com's Rob Rang, is that he's not quick. "[Lawrence], does not appear to have the preferred straight-line speed for linebacker and does not possess the bulk normally associated with defensive linemen. He Struggles to break free once blockers grab hold of his chest plate," Rang says.
With Lawrence going to Dallas, it marks the third time in three years that Boise State defensive end has been taken in the first three rounds of the draft. In 2012, the Bears took Shea McClellin with the 19th overall pick. Also in 2012, former Boise State defensive end Tyrone Crawford was taken in the third round by the Cowboys.
