With the No. 45 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select tight end Adam Shaheen from Ashland University.

Chicago Bears

Pete Prisco's Grade: C-

They are a team that needs weapons, and this kid is a player the scouts really liked. But they had other pressing need.

Instant analysis

The Bears traded up for Mitchell Trubisky in the first round, and they gave him a big, athletic weapon in the second. Shaheen is 6-foot-6 and 277 pounds, and he tested out as one of the most athletic tight ends in the draft, according to the popular SPARQ athleticism rankings. Shaheen was a 190-pound basketball player coming out of high school, but he completely remade his body and turned himself into a football player over the last few years. Some in the scouting community even took to calling him "Baby Gronk," as our Jason La Canfora noted in his profile of Shaheen. Shaheen may need to refine his skill set, but he should be able to make an impact even in limited snaps, given the nose for the end zone he demonstrated in college. He scored once every seven catches at Ashland.

Fantasy impact

"The Bears needed weapons in the passing game after getting Mike Glennon and Mitchell Trubisky to (hopefully) fix their quarterback situation, and Adam Shaheen should be a good target. Zach Miller and Dion Sims will likely handle the bulk of the tight end work this year, but Shaheen should work in and get some chances to make plays. That said, he's not worth drafting in seasonal leagues, and Shaheen is only worth a second- or third-round pick in rookie-only drafts." – Jamey Eisenberg
