Six months after tearing his Achilles tendon in practice, San Francisco wide receiver Michael Crabtree is back on the team's active-roster. The 49ers activated Crabtree on Tuesday and made room for him by releasing third-string quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson.

Crabtree had been on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list since Aug. 27.

Don't be surprised if Crabtree's on the field for the 49ers game on Sunday against the Rams. After San Francisco's Monday night win over Washington, coach Jim Harbaugh said he 'would anticipate' Crabtree playing against St. Louis.

Crabtree has been practicing with the team since Nov. 5. Under PUP rules, a team has 21 days to activate a player once the player begins practicing, so the 49ers had to activate Crabtree by Tuesday if they wanted to see him on the field this season.

One player who will probably be pretty excited to see Crabtree in a game situation is 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick has struggled this season and the 49ers passing attack is ranked dead last in the NFL.

The 49ers don't exactly have a lot of weapons when it comes to catching passes, Kaepernick has been throwing almost everything to Anquan Boldin or Vernon Davis. Boldin and Davis have combined to catch all 14 of Kaepernick's touchdown passes this season and 1,347 -- or 66.1 percent -- of his 2,037 passing yards.

Last season, Crabtree led the 49ers and was 14th in the NFL with 1,105 yards. Crabtree hasn't played in a game since Super Bowl XLVII when he caught five passes for 109 yards and a touchdown in San Francisco's 34-31 loss to Baltimore.
