Brandon Lloyd is coming home. The 49ers announced they signed Lloyd, originally drafted by San Francisco in 2003, to a one-year deal on Tuesday.

Lloyd was a fourth-round pick for San Francisco in the 2003 NFL Draft but his career never really took off in San Francisco -- his best season was in 2006 and the 49ers traded him to the Redskins following that season.

Lloyd didn't do much in Washington, either and bounced around the league before exploding under Josh McDaniels' tutelage -- and with Kyle Orton under center -- with the Broncos in 2010, when he caught 77 passes for 1,448 yards.

Lloyd was traded the next year, midseason, to the Rams (after McDaniels was fired), played well down the stretch and then hooked up with the Patriots in 2012 when McDaniels returned there.

He didn't play football in 2013 but now gets a shot at returning with San Francisco this coming season. He joins an odd group of receivers: Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree and Lloyd aren't exactly the most dynamic and young group in the NFL. They can beat you in all kinds of different ways though.

Lloyd will be 33 in July, so there's no telling exactly how much he's got in the tank or whether he'll even make the roster. San Francisco's still a candidate to nab a wideout early in the draft this year.
