On Aug. 22, former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was indicted on a first-degree murder charge. He will formally have his charges read -- and enter a plea to those charges -- at an arraignment on Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. ET, the Bristol County (Mass.) Clerk of Court confirmed Tuesday to CBSSports.com.

Hernandez is currently being held in jail -- solitary confinement no less -- after being arrested in June for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old semi-professional football player who was acquaintances with Hernandez.

The arraignment will be Hernandez's third court appearance in recent months. He was originally scheduled for a court date in July before a judge granted the prosecution a 30-day continuance in a probable cause hearing.

Hernandez later appeared at his indictment last week, where his attorney continued to maintain Hernandez's innocence.

"There has been an incredible rush to judgment in this case," Hernandez lawyer Michael Fee said at his indictment.

Given that statement it would be quite surprising if Hernandez entered a plea other than "not guilty" at his arraignment in September.
