Adrian Peterson, Toby Gerhart out; Matt Asiata to play for Vikings

Vikings players were informed Saturday night that running back Adrian Peterson wouldn't play against the Eagles Sunday, according to Sean Jensen of K-TWIN, and both players have since been declared inactive. That means there will be no matchup of the league's best running backs when the Vikings meet the Eagles and LeSean McCoy.
Peterson's backup, Toby Gerhart, who was listed as questionable this week, is also expected to miss the game. In Peterson's absence last week, Gerhart managed 89 rushing yards on 15 carries (5.9 YPC).
For the Vikings, that leaves running backs Matt Asiata and Joe Banyard (who was elevated from the practice squad Saturday). Asiata has nine career rushing yards on three carries -- all coming last season -- while Barnyard has yet to register a carry in a regular-season game.
Peterson left last week's game against the Ravens with an ankle injury after rushing for just 13 yards. For the season, Peterson is second in the league with 1,221 rushing yards (4.6 YPC), 85 yards behind NFL leader LeSean McCoy (1,305, 5.0 YPC).
