INDIANAPOLIS -- There sure seem to be a lot of friendly wagers floating around the 2013 NFL Combine. Some Tennessee wideouts have a bet on draft slot and so do LSU teammates Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery.
The defensive players, per each of them at their respective press conferences, said they've got $5,000 and a car wash riding on who gets drafted first.
"We had three bets going on. We had one for the highest [number] of sacks for $1,000. I won that," Montgomery said via Dan Kadar of Mocking the Draft. "We had one for $500 for the most sacks in the last game. I won that. Now we're fighting [to see] who goes highest in the draft."
Yes, you, like me, are probably wondering where these college guys came up with that kind of cash to pay off a bet. To that, I say ... nothing to see here, people, move along now.
Instead, if you're looking for some side action on their action, well, you have a problem. But you should also be loading up on Mingo -- he's our ninth overall prospect and No. 3 defensive end on NFLDraftScout.com's big board. Montgomery is "only" 32nd overall and the eighth defensive end.
"Sam and I had plenty of bets on the year," Mingo said. "Our first one was who had the first sack. He was supposed to wash my car because I won. He hasn't done that. I'm pretty confident in myself, so he's going to be coming out some money on that one. And I get a car wash."
Mingo and Montgomery are clearly close -- Montgomery joined the media throng for Mingo's press conference after his own session ended and asked a couple of questions.

"Will you rely mostly on your speed or will you gain weight?" Montgomery asked.
Mingo conceded he would be fine gaining weight and said he'd even be fine going as high as 250 or 255 if that's what was needed for him to make an impact on the game.
Then he was offered a chance to ask a question back to Montgomery as well.
"Why are you here? Go home. Eat!"
